Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). At the age of five and moved to Oxfordshire and went to an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma chose to become an actor by the age of six. Over the course of several years she was in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing, dancing and acting. By the age of ten she was performing and taking the lead in various Stagecoach productions and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents through the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. After eight continuous auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected to play three of the leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's cinematic screen debut. It was also the biggest and most popular film of 2001. Opening weekday and weekend the sales were unbeatable. The film received praise from people who have read it, along with the performances of its three young actors. The highly distributed British daily The Daily Telegraph called her performance "awesome. Emma took home the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for a Feature Film. Emma was recognized five times in recognition of her performance in the film.
